Australia won the toss and chose to bat in their Group A match against New Zealand at Sharjah. Both teams enter the contest on the back of dominant opening victories, making this game crucial for securing a stronger foothold in the group stages. Another win today would bring the victor a step closer to advancing from the group phase.

Australian captain Alyssa Healy based her decision to bat first on the tournament’s trend of challenging chases. “It’s been difficult to chase here,” Healy noted, reflecting on previous matches. Meanwhile, New Zealand captain Sophie Devine shared that they would have preferred to bat first as well but was eager to “disrupt the Australians” with their bowling attack.

The match will be played on the same pitch that hosted England’s comfortable chase of 125 against South Africa the night before, suggesting there could be good scoring opportunities for both teams. However, spin will continue to be a pivotal factor in Sharjah, where 44 wickets have fallen to spinners, in stark contrast to Dubai’s 21.

Both sides have made tactical changes, strengthening their spin arsenals. Australia brought in spin-bowling all-rounder Grace Harris in place of seamer Darcie Brown. New Zealand also opted for additional spin, swapping left-arm spinner Fran Jonas for pace bowler Jess Kerr.
